OMBADC is supporting the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department and Housing and Urban Department in implementing projects intended to provide potable drinking water across mining-affected regions in the Rural and Urban Areas of mining districts like Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Koraput Dhenkanal and Angul. ...215 Mega & Small, piped water supply projects are completed in the rural areas out of Ad-hoc CAMPA funding, benefiting 354 villages in 8 mineral-rich districts with an outlay of Rs. 627.76 crore. Similarly, out of Compensation money funding, 30 Mega Piped Water Supply projects and 690 Small and Multi-Village schemes are being implemented under Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh & Jajpur districts, which will saturate 6,270 villages. These efforts are aimed to provide universal piped water coverage to approximately 15 lakh rural households, addressing the detrimental impacts of mining on groundwater and surface water quality.
Further, Augmentation of Water Supply Schemes was implemented in urban areas of the mining districts i.e Sundargarh, Keonjhar & Jajpur, complementing the existing schemes and fill gaps in six ULBs of three districts. The H&UD department has launched another ambitious scheme entitled Drink from Tap scheme for providing drinking water on 24x7 basis to several Urban Local Bodies. Here OMBADC has taken a lead role and has allocated Rs.880.40 Cr for implementation of the said scheme in 14 Urban Local Bodies across Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur districts.
